1986년생. 소설가. 작가는 사람의 다양한 측면 때문에 책 속 인물이 왜 어떠한 행동을 하였는지 확답을 줄 수 없고, 기본적 장면의 해석은 오로지 독자의 몫이라고 말한다. 소설은 다 쓰고 나면 과거이기 때문에, 작품에 몰입한 후 빠르게 빠져나오려고 노력하는 편이라고 한다. 전북대학교 국어국문학과 졸업 후 한국 예술종합학교에서 서사창작 석사학위를, 동국대학교에서 국어국문학 박사과정을 수료했다. 2012년 경향신문 신춘문예에 단편소설 『방』이 당선되면서 작품활동을 시작하였으며, 소설집 『괜찮은 사람』, 『화이트 호스』, 장편소설 『다른 사람』, 『대불호텔의 유령』, 중편소설 『다정한 유전』 등을 집필하였다. 수상작으로는 한겨레문학상, 구상문학상 젊은작가상, 문학동네 젊은작가상 대상, 백신애문학상, 제45회 이상문학상 등이 있다.
About Kang Hwa-Gil
Per Kang Hwa-Gil, classe 1986, la poliedricità dell’essere umano rende impossibile e inaffidabile ogni risposta al perché i personaggi agiscano in un determinato modo: l’interpretazione delle scene cardine spetta solo ed esclusivamente al lettore. Ritenendo che, una volta scritto, un libro appartenga al passato, dopo la fase di immersione l’autrice tende a prenderne le distanze il più in fretta possibile.

Laureata in Lingua e Letteratura coreana presso la Jeonbuk National University, consegue un Master in Scrittura creativa presso la Korea National University of the Arts, e un Dottorato in Lingua e Letteratura coreana presso la Dongguk University. Esordisce nel panorama letterario nel 2012, quando il suo racconto “La stanza” vince il concorso per opere prime del quotidiano Kyunghyang. A seguire, usciranno le raccolte di racconti “Una brava persona” e “White horse”, i romanzi “Un’altra donna”, “Il fantasma dell’Hotel Daebul”, e il romanzo breve “Yujeon, una donna affettuosa”. Tra i molti riconoscimenti, l’Hankyoreh Literary Award, il Ku Sang Literature Prize for Young Writers, il Munhakdongne Young Writer’s Award, il Baek Sin-Ae Cultural Prize, nonché lo Yi Sang Literary Award (2022).
About Kang Hwa-Gil
Born in 1986, novelist Kang Hwa-gil believes that because people have various sides, it is impossible to answer why characters act in the ways that they do. Thus, she also believes that it’s the reader’s part to interpret each scene. Kang mostly tries her best to escape from her work after having been immersed in it. This is because, as soon as the writer finishes writing a story, the writing then becomes something done in the past. After graduating with a degree in Korean Literature from Jeonbuk National University, Kang finished a master’s degree program in Creative Writing at Korea National University of Arts and a PhD program in Korean Literature from Dongguk University. She began her writing career in 2012, publishing the story “Room” in Kyunghyang Shinmun’s Spring Literary Contest. Since then, she has published the story collections A Good Person, White Horse, the full-length novels A Different Person, The Ghost of Devil Hotel, and the novella Kind Heredity. She has received the Hankyoreh Literary Award, The Young Artist Award, The Ku Sang Literature Prize for Young Writers, the Munhakdongne Young Writers’ Award, the Paek Sin-ae Literature Prize and the 45th Yi Sang Literary Award amongst others.
About 『다른 사람』

2017년 발표한 장편소설로 제22회 한겨례문학상 장편부분 수상작이다. 데이트 폭력, 여성 혐오 범죄, 성폭력, 강간 등 한국 사회에서 여성에게 가해지는 많은 형태의 폭력을 날카롭게 글로 표현한다. 같은 회사 상사인 남자친구로부터 데이트 폭력을 경험한 주인공 “진아”와 사내 인터넷 게시판의 루머들, 되살아나는 죽은 친구 “유리”에 대한 기억. 불안하고 불온하며 놓아버리고 싶지만 그럴 수 없도록 만드는 " 너, 나, 우리의 이야기”이다. 『다른 사람』은 우리 주변의 남녀 또는 사람과 사람 사이의 정신적, 신체적 폭력을 ‘나는 그 사람과 다르다’라는 이유로 외면하는 공감의 단절을 담아내고 있다. 무거운 주제의식이 있지만 강화길 작가는 특유의 담담한 문체로 원시적이고 직접적으로 묘사하고 있다.

About "Un’altra donna"

Pubblicato nel 2017, e vincitore della 22ma edizione dell’Hankyoreh Literary Award, il romanzo descrive con un linguaggio incisivo le molteplici forme di violenza inflitte alle donne nella società coreana: dalla violenza negli appuntamenti romantici (dating violence) ai crimini d’odio e misoginia, alle molestie sessuali, allo stupro. Gli abusi di cui Jin-A, la protagonista, è vittima da parte del fidanzato che è anche un suo superiore gerarchico, le voci ostili che circolano online a seguito della denuncia, il riemergere del ricordo di Yuri, l’amica che non c’è più, il desiderio di lasciar andare ansie e insofferenza e l’impossibilità di farlo perché “è una storia tua, mia, di tutti noi”. “L’Altra donna” è un romanzo sull’empatia che si disconnette davanti agli abusi mentali e fisici tra uomini e donne attorno a noi, e li respinge col pretesto che “io non sono così”. Fortemente consapevole dei temi trattati, l’autrice li descrive con crudezza e senza girarci attorno, ma sempre nello stile misurato che la contraddistingue.

About A Different Person

Published in 2017, A Different Person was the recipient of the 22nd Hankyoreh Literary Award. Crimes of misogyny, sexual violence, rape, and dating violence are just some of the many forms of violence committed against women in Korean society that are sharply expressed in Kang’s writing. In A Different Person, after the protagonist Jina experiences dating violence from her boyfriend who is her boss at the office she works for, rumors begin circulating on the in-house company internet bulletin board. At the same time, memories of Jina’s dead friend Yuri keep coming back to life. Within the anxieties build into more anxieties, which makes the readers want to let go, but in this “story of me-story of you-story of us”, you just can’t. A Different Person captures how easy it is to turn away from the physical and mental violence between men and women, or between people and other people, because of how easy it is to think “I am not that person.” Kang Hwa-gil’s unique style and direct description deftly delivers these heavy subjects.
