作家简介 - 金草叶作家的
毕业于浦项工业大学化学专业，并以生物化学专业获得硕士学位。2017年，以短篇小说《馆内遗失》和《如果我们无法以光速前行》获得第2届韩国科学文学奖中短篇大奖和佳作奖。之后开始专职写作，有小说集《如果我们无法以光速前行》、《圆筒里的少女》等。合著有《成为赛博格》，也入选多部作品选集。2019年获得当年作家奖，2020年获得文学村出版社的“年轻作家奖”。
About Kim Cho-yeop
Kim Cho-yeop received an undergraduate degree in chemistry and a master's degree in biochemistry from Pohang University of Science and Technology. She began her career in 2017 by winning the 2nd Korean Science Fiction Awards Grand Prize for her story "Lost on Premises" and "If We Can't Go at the Speed of Light". She is the author of multiple short story collections, including If We Can't Go at the Speed of Light and The Girl in the Cylinder, a co-author of the book Becoming a Cyborg, and a contributor to many anthologies. She received Today's Writer Award in 2019 and Munhakdongne's Young Writer Prize in 2020.
About 김초엽
포항공과대학교에서 화학을 전공하고, 생화학으로 석사 학위를 받았다. 2017년 『관내분실』과 『우리가 빛의 속도로 갈 수 없다면』으로 제2회 한국과학문학상 중단편 대상과 가작을 동시에 수상하며 작품 활동을 시작했다. 작품으로는 소설집 『우리가 빛의 속도로 갈 수 없다면』, 『원통 안의 소녀』 등이 있고, 논픽션 공저 『사이보그가 되다』를 비롯하여 여러 앤솔러지에 참여했다. 2019년 오늘의 작가상, 2020년 문학동네 젊은작가상을 수상했다.

这是金草叶作家的第一部作品集。标题作品《如果我们无法以光速前行》里，颇具魅力的“女科学家老人”是主人公。通过作品人物，小说不断问寻为何有些痛苦是甘心承受的、在生命的尽头竭尽全力意味着什么。获得文学奖以后，金草叶的作品世界不断拓宽，其思维与思索也更加踏实。只身流落到只有5个卫星的星球上的主人公与外星人相遇（《光谱》）；在没有痛苦的乌托邦，佯装不知而度过日常（《朝圣者们为什么不再回来》）等，金草叶的小说里蕴含着面对我的或我们世界的勇气，诠释爱情与友情的坚韧之心，以及锲而不舍的奋斗精神。

About If We Can’t Go at the Speed of Light

The protagonist of Kim Cho-yeop's first short story collection, If We Can't Go at the Speed of Light, is a charming grandmother. Through its characters, the collection explores questions such as what kind of pain we are able to endure, and how we can live best at the end of our lives. After winning literature prizes for her early work, the world of Kim Cho-yeop's literature expanded and the questions and issues she explored became more singular and concrete. For instance, "Spectrum" asks the question: What if you are left alone on a planet with five moons and you encountered aliens? And the scenario in "Why Don't the Pilgrim's Come Back?" explores whether or not you could live in a painless utopia without asking questions. Although speculative, Kim Cho-yeop's stories embody the struggle of learning to have the courage to discover our individual and shared worlds, and speaking of love and friendship.

About 『우리가 빛의 속도로 갈 수 없다면』

김초엽 작가의 첫 작품집이다. 표제작 『우리가 빛의 속도로 갈 수 없다면』에는 매력적인 '할머니 과학자'가 주인공으로 등장한다. 소설 속 인물을 통해 작가는 어째서 어떤 고통은 기꺼이 감내할 수 있는지, 생의 끝에서 최선을 다한다는 것은 무엇인지를 자꾸만 묻는 듯하다. 문학상 이후 김초엽의 작품들은 더욱 확장된 세계를 그려내고 있으며, 작가의 고민과 질문도 더 단단해진 듯 하다. 다섯 개의 위성이 뜨는 행성에 홀로 남겨져 외계인과 조우하게 될지라도(『스펙트럼』), 고통 없는 유토피아에서 짐짓 모르는 것처럼 질문하지 않고 살아갈 수 있을 때에도(『순례자들은 왜 돌아오지 않는가』). 그럼에도 불구하고 나의 세계를, 우리의 세계를 알아야겠다고 용기 내는 마음, 우리의 사랑과 우정을 말하며 지지 않는 마음, 분투하는 태도가 김초엽의 소설에는 있다.
